Gift of the Generation Gap, Track 2: 1965

Original: 1985
Original by: Bowling For Soup
Synopsis: The original single by Bowling For Soup sings about a woman obsessed with the 1980s and the trends of said period. Similarly themed, this reminiscing version sings from the perspective of Generation X, lamenting on the deviation of the newer generation from their mindsets, values and other things.

We began it all, we had our rise and fall.
And every single day, was spent with meagre pay.
Our dreams went down the drain, the day these youngsters came.
Our ways they reject, we just could not connect.
They're all fed up with progress, they're gonna leave this dump.
They're gonna find some place, where they still have chewing gum.
The very MOE, is their one enemy.
Look at their brand new life
And nothing, even, looks right

Since Temasek and Raffles,
The only thing that baffles us is
How come these babies,
Are bent on going overseas?
Their morals, and values,
Are lacking and that can't do.
Because these guys saw the light
After, 19, 1965.

They know all the pop stars, they've all been Westernised.
Jay Chou and Wang Lee Hom, mad Jackie Chan is no surprise.
They like their mrbrown,
Making fun of PM Lee.
Wanna find somewhere,
With a cheaper COE.
Wearing miniskirts, showing off skin
And yakking on the phone while speaking in non-Mandarin.
When did the campaign, attack dialects?
Whatever happened to textbooks, sciences, all in fantizi?

Since Temasek and Raffles,
The only thing that baffles us is
How come these babies,
Are bent on going overseas?
Their morals, and values,
Are lacking and that can't do.
Because these guys saw the light
After, 19, 1965.

Where on Earth, did we go wrong?
How did we get all these English NatDay songs?
And how did we allow bartop dancing?
That's just plain wrong, wrong, WRONG!
*pause*
Please bring back

Temasek and Raffles,
The only thing that baffles us is
How come these babies,
Are bent on going overseas?
Their morals, and values,
Are lacking and that can't do.
Because these guys saw the light
After, 19, 1965.
Since Temasek and Raffles,
The only thing that baffles us is
How come these babies,
Are bent on going overseas?
Their morals, and values,
Are lacking and that can't do.
Because these guys saw the light
After, 19, 1965.

Gift of the Generation Gap

"Gift of the Generation Gap" is a parody album inspired by the differing views of the young and old, the restless and retired, the digital and dismal. We've all heard about the generation gap between Generations X and Y, how they can't stand each other and how they can't do without each other.

However, unlike their polar opposite, Generation X is rarely heard of on the Internet.

This album provides a humorous jab at the alternative viewpoints presented by Generation X, in the form of sometimes satirical, sometimes god-awfully truthful renditions, with some of the younger perspectives thrown in for good measure and the sake of balance.

1. I Loathe Rock 'n' Roll
2. 1965
3. Quiet Please
4. Since You've Been Gone
5. You're Not My Kid Anymore
6. Lifestyles of the Young & the Restless
7. I'm Not Stupid Too
8. Black & White
9. W.I.M.P.
10. Bubble
11. Who's Raving?
12. Old & Wordy

The Powuh of Parody's Intriguingly Insightful Yet Indisputably Irritating Introduction

"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Well... maybe not all the time." -- Yours Truly

Since our younger schooldays when the "born in a zoo" version of the Happy Birthday song first reached our ears, parodies have intrigued all of us regardless of who we are. But why do we like it? Why do we laugh at greats such as "Weird Al" Yankovic and Bob Rivers?

For some, the varied lyrics offers an alternative view on music and cultural themes we admit familiarity to (and for some of us, boredom). For others, we laugh at the expense made on others; what other basic fundamental is there to stand-up comedy? For some, it serves as an outlet to release steam by letting fly a few (disputably) creative juices.

And to cut a potentially long introduction short, this is simply what The Powuh of Parody is all about: to allow said creator to release stress in their life, and those of others who happen to chance upon it.

With that, I humbly bid you adieu.

Signed,
(NAME CENSORED)
